The sketches of modern Azerbaijani literature: Rasim Garaja’s avant-garde

Abstract

In the article is dealt with the creativity of Rasim Garaja, poet and prose-writer, who has a special
place in the development of Azerbaijani literature during the period of independence and stands out for his
services to the development of the avant-garde and postmodern art movement. Rasim Garaja entered
literature with the poetry, wrote the manifestos predicating the breath of the new age in poetry. He founded
first literary group “Baja” in Azerbaijan, as well as literary institution “Independent Writers’ Organization”
together with like-minded persons. The magazine “Alatoran” created by him played a major role in raising of
new generation writers. Rasim Garaja published 12 poetry and prose books; his poetry, stories, novels
resonated. In the article the creativity of Rasim Garaja is analyzed in detail and his avant-garde position in
the literature, innovations in poetry, idea-aesthetic capacity of his stories as well as novelist is studied and
interpreted. Rasim Garaja’s creativity is conceptual in essence, he has raised a number of his successors in the
literature and played a valid role in changing the aesthetic quality of the literature of the independence period.
