Abstract

A comparsion is a means of expressing imagery and belongs to tropes; is an important figurative and expressive tool of the language. Comparison types differ in the predominance of one of two types of information: logical-objective and expressive. Linguistic comparisons usually refer to comparisons that become fixed in language as a result of repeated use. By including additional information through comparison, the semantic boundaries of not only literary but also journalistic text are expanded.

In the article, examples of toponyms and imagery in the texts of Azerbaijani and English-language newspapers were studied.

Various scientific sources have been used in writing the article.
