The meaning of a work of art becomes clear in the process of interpretation. The
formation of meaning comes from different approaches. They analyze the formation of meaning,
focusing on the position of the author, work, and reader/viewer during artistic interpretation. This
article mainly analyzes a number of ideas that consider the language and form of a work of art as
the main criterion for interpretation.
The language of a work of art is a coded language made up of symbols and metaphors. Therefore,
formalists and structuralists viewed the work as a whole and considered the analysis of language
and form sufficient to interpret its meaning. However, in any case, it is difficult to agree that the
author and especially the reader/viewer do not play a role in this process. It is the author who
creates the coded language, and it is the subject, the reader or the viewer, who interprets its meaning
and recodes it from his own point of view. So, the process cannot be limited to language and form.
However, the analysis of the language of work opens up a wide semiotic space that forms meaning,
and its analysis is important for conducting interesting researches in many areas, such as language
and culture, language and ideology, language and psychology.
