Abstract

The article is devoted to the images of Nakhchivan in the works of the People's Artist of
Azerbaijan Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya. These include landscapes of the ancient land, cultural artifacts
found there, and portraits of great figures. The article analyzes various works of the artist from the
series “Azerbaijan – a country of ancient culture”. As a child, the artist lived in Nakhchivan with
her aunt during World War II. Then she went there several times, these trips inspired her to create
landscapes and thematic paintings.
There is a group of artists in whom a mental ethnic code is more clearly apparent in their creations.
The ethnic component of their people's art is expressed more comrehensivery and freely in their work. In them the traditions of Turkic art, reignited more intensively in the last decades of the 20-th
century, are felt more strongly with the re- emergence of a national art and social-cultural
consciousness. These processes are reflected clearly in the career of People's Artist of Azerbaijan
Elmira Shahtakhtinskaya. She devoted her life to imaging the values of the Azerbaijani nations.
Nakhchivan-Shahtakhti was the homeland of Shahtakhtinskaya's ancestors. This may explain her
captivation with these stiff mountain landscapes.
