Abstract

Prominent writer, L.N.Tolstoy’s “Diaries” covers the years 1828-1910 and is not inferior to
his capacious works; and in “Diaries” is reflected the religious-philosophical and spiritual-moral
thoughts and depth analysis of main characters in a way specific to the author.
It is known from Diaries that the theme of spiritual renewal of the hero sets the author thinking a lot.
Tolstoy for 10 years (1889-1899) has intermittently referred to his novel “Resurrection” and repeatedly
changed his attitude towards the main character of the work, Prince Nekhlyudov and he creates a
magnificent work dedicated to the life of a nobleman who regrets his bad behavior; and this work
distinguishes by its social-critical power and is at the same level as the author's world-famous novels
“War and Peace” and “Anna Karenina”. In the diaries, the theme of Caucasus that the writer deals with
at the beginning and end of his work attracts attention. Tolstoy who approached life from the point of
view of Eastern wisdom in his novel “Hadji Murad” manages to create a monumental historical
character of the Muslim hero Hadji Murad. The writer emphasizes spiritual and moral values benefiting
from the experience of Eastern philosophy.
In the article the character Hadji Murad distinguished by high spiritual and moral values, is studied in
comparative terms with unspiritual and cruel characters of “Cruiser Sonata”, in Tolstoy's words,
characters living in an immoral and flawed age.
In general, Diaries by L.N.Tolstoy can be viewed as a compendium consisted of thoughts revealing
moral values, which are the basis of human spiritual evolution, and flaws in socio-social life.
