Gulam Mammadli and the magazine “Molla Nasraddin”

Abstract

In the article is studied chronicling activity of Gulam Mammadli, chronicler scientist,
journalist, theater scholar and publicist. Gulam Mammadli entered the history of literary thought of
Azerbaijani people as a scholar-chronicler. The chronicle “Molla Nasraddin” that he wrote based on
the materials and historical documents he collected as a result of long years of productive and
intensive research, and created with great effort and deep responsibility became the subject of
research. Valuable information is given in the article about interesting materials collected from 192
sources – life and activity of Jalil Mammadguluzade, services in the formation of the public opinion
of Azerbaijan, creation of a magazine edited by him, his role in the literature, press history, its main authors, numerous reporter and international recognition. In addition to it, in the article is talked
about the extensive and fundamental researches such as “Huseyn Arablinski” (1967, 292 p.),
“Jahangir Zeynalov” (1968, 172 p.), “Chronicle of Azerbaijani Theatre” (First part. 1974, 584 p.,
second part, 1983. 300 p.), “Javid throughout his life” (1982, 298 p.), “Uzeyir Hajibeyov” (1983,
550 p.), “Abbas Mirza Sharifzade” (1985, 242 p.), “Nariman Narimanov” (1987, 358 p.) created by
Gulam Mammdli about personalities and their activities who have made great contributions to the
development of Azerbaijani literature and culture.
