Abstract

The counter-offensive operation, which was launched by the Azerbaijani Army following the Armenian military provocation and lasted 44 days, has become yet another glorious page of our history. From the onset of the counter-attacks, the foreign press gave a wide coverage of the developments and the anatomy of the occupation attempt.

Many influential foreign newspapers and media outlets appraised the new Karabakh war as a long-awaited liberation of Azerbaijan’s lands, which have been under Armenian occupation for about 30 years, and fight for freedom.

At the same time, the reality that makes many in Europe, the cradle of democracy, to feel very envious of, did not appear unambiguously also on the agenda of the foreign press. There were quite a number of media outlets featuring envious and distorting mindsets in many their publications, and even those who supported the aggressor’s position. This can be considered as not a new evidence of the fact that the world’s political circles, as well as the press, are subject to double standards. This is confirmed also by some examples of the press reviewed in the article and a series of articles published by them.

The article examines the approach of a number of influential foreign media outlets to the Second Karabakh War not only from a realistic point of view, but also with double standards, as well as the activities of a number of publications during the Patriotic War.
