Abstract

The first issue of “Zanbur” magazine was published on March 13,1909 in Baku and its creation is closely related to the magazine “Molla Nasraddin”. Famous magazine “Molla Nasraddin” that was published by great democratic writer Jalil Mammadguluzadeh has gained great popularity among the general public and that is why many members of the press tried to follow the path of this magazine and wanted to create a press agency like this.

Intellectuals with different beliefs and worldviews gathered around the magazine “Zanbur”. 70 issues of the magazine were published and the editor of the magazine changed several times. The editor of the 1-21 issues of the magazine in 1909 was R.B.Salimkhanov, the editor of the 22-42 issues in 1909 was A.Azimzade, 1-27 issues in 1910 was Murtuz bey Palavandov.

We should mention the name of artist A.Azimzade among the editors especially. A.Azimzade was editor of 22-42 issues of the magazine “Zanbur” and also was one of the active authors of this magazine. The peasant life, disenfranchisement of Azerbaijani women, motives for fighting against religion and superstition and exposure of international imperialism was exposed in the writings by A.Azimzade that were published with pseudonyms such as “Phiron khude”, “Avara ressam”, “Khoruz”, “Meettel galan” and others in the magazine “Zanbur”.
