The Performative Function of Prayers in the Poetry of Vagif

Abstract

Appeal of the author of the article to the theory of performativity makes it possible to deepen the understanding of Vagif’s lyrical genres. The article analyzes prayers from the point of view of the implementation of the performative principle in them. In the structure of the poems of the great poet, prayers occupy the dominant place at the beginning part. The performative beginning of prayer in poems brings it closer to action, as it happens in magic (I.Tyupa). Prayers determine the type and style of the poet’s thinking, the archetypal genre structure of the text as a whole. The relevance of the study is due to the poetic functionality of prayers.
