Abstract

In this article is analyzed the general landscape of satirical poetry of Mirza Alakbar Sabir, the harbinger of freedom and independence, a fighter for national education and liberation, who left an indelible imprint on the history of Azerbaijani culture in the early twentieth century. The main idea in the article, emphasized with a red line is that during the period 1906-1911 Sabir's satires were distributed and read not only in Azerbaijan, South Azerbaijan, Turkey, but also in St. Petersburg, Kazan, Moscow, Astrakhan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan , Bashkurtstan and other regions of the then Russian Empire. Suffice it to say what an important influence Sabir's satirical work had on the formation of the political, social, cultural and aesthetic views of the classic of the then Tatar literature of the early twentieth century, Gabdulla Tukay. In addition to the above, we also touch upon some problems of Russian translations of Sabir's satire poems. At the same time, according to the opinion of the Russian poet – one of the venerable works of this truth-loving translator L.Penkovsky, he has every right to be called “Azerbaijani Juvenal”.
