On some parallels and intersections in the development of classical musical traditions of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan

Abstract

Parallels and intersections of Azerbaijan mugam and uzbek makom is a unique aspect of interconnections of cultures of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The development of classical music gave rise to necessity of recording for official canonization of sacral tradition of musical and verbal texts of makoms making the way from practice to theory. On the top of this idea there appeared makom notation. Azerbaijan musicologist of the Middle Ages Abdulgadir Maragai has performed great services in this process. Tanbur notation is unique as in the centuries-old history of classical music of the East for the first time there was written an integral code of makoms resulted from the centuries  old practice.
