Architectural heritage of the town Shamakhy

Abstract

The town of Shamakhy having rich history has undergone repeated chan ges in the course of centuries. Destructive effect of earthquakes happened at different times influenced upon historical and architectural monuments. A few monuments and remains of fortresses have come down to us. The comp lex consisting of six mausoleums (XVII c.), remains of the fortress Gulistan (XI-XII cc.), Juma mosque and remains of the fortress Bala (XIV c.) can be cited as an example.
