Research of ancient sources in academic work of Z.Safarova

Abstract

The article explores the academic work of the renowned musicologist and member of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences, Professor Zemira Safarova. The article presents her as a scholar who has laid the foundations of the source study in the Azerbaijani musical science. Z. Safarova was the first researcher to analyze the academic heritage translated from the original
sources of the prominent thinkers of the Middle Ages S.Urmavi, F.Shirvani as well as the XIX century scholar M.M.Navvab, the theoretical and aesthetical origins of the work of U.Hajibayli. The most critical milestone of the scholarly explorations of Zemira Safarova in the ield of source study is the fundamental study entitled “The musical science of Azerbaijan (XIII-XIX centuries)”.
