“Indra s heroism” as the beginning of the New Year according to Vedy mythology (on the example of the sanctuary Tamgala)

Abstract

İn the article there is considered the celebration of the New Year in the context of Vedy mythology of Rigveds where the New Year is connected with the heroism of the highest God Indra over the demon­snake Vritra. The author supposes that this event was celebrated in the sanctuary of Tamgala in the middle of the II millenium B.C. in the days of vernal equinox, as well as the theatrical mysteries devoted to this heroism and correspondingly to the begining of the New Year were played every year.
