A new trend in Azerbaijani sculpture during independence period: monuments of prominent foreigners in Baku and famous Azerbaijanis abroad

Abstract

One of the characteristic peculiarities of monumental sculpture of Azerbaijan during independence period - erecting monuments by eminent foreign public and cultural persons in Baku and by famous sons and daughters of our country in countries of the world is highlighted in the article. The author mentions and analyses briely monuments of Mozart, Pushkin, Ataturk, Shevchenko, etc. by emphasizing not only artistic-aesthetic, but also public and international value of their establishment. The main component of the article is showing the monuments of Azerbaijani eminent public-political and cultural persons, which were erected abroad. The author mentions about monuments of Heydar Aliyev, Nizami, Uzeyir Hajibeyli, Natavan and other our compatriots, who became peculiar symbols of Azerbaijani history and culture in foreign countries.
