Ornament – ethnic identiier of carpet art

Abstract

Ornament is a basis of artistic language of the carpet. Azerbaijan carpets, inal and irrevocable separation of them from such amorphous deinitions as “oriental carpets”, “Caucasian carpets”, “Persian carpets” is the most urgent and at the same time the most complicated problem in art science. Stable tendency to explain, interpret a number of ornaments of Azerbaijan carpets as symbols of zoroastrism side by side with antiTurkic one causes concern. In this line buta and all its numerous modiications occupy the irst place. Up to present researchers in the sphere of ethnic identiication of Azerbaijan and Turkic carpets have not been summarized and generalized. They are built on “nonpermanent methodology” not having a system.
