Abstract

The paper deals with the names of the “cross stone”, common in the Caucasus. The word “khachkar” did not occur in Armenian culture until the 12thcentury; the words “khach” and “kar” originated from Indo-European languages. As we see, their roots come from Sanskrit - from the language of the Veda, archaic sacral texts, which laid the foundation for South Asian traditional religious ideologies and Indo-European culture as a whole.
