A new look at traditions and innovation in art

Abstract

The author agrees with the accepted opinion that the main function of the art tradition is the realization of continuity in translation of the art experience. But I principally disagree with “dialectics of traditions and innovation” (Hegel – Marxist). The history of art refutes this dialectics. Certainly, in art always appears something new. But this new one can be the result of intentionally innovation. So is not the intentionally nevelty in the middle ages art. On the other hand, the innovation can be the rejection of traditions as it was in avant-garde of XX century.
