Abstract

Although several portraits of Shah Ismail I – the founder of Safavid State of Azerbaijan are known today, there is no detailed research works on the true author of these portraits, when and under what circumstances they were painted. For the first time, the identification of the portraits was classified according to two different criteria: the first for outward signs (clothes, ornamental accessories, hat, etc.) and the second for anthropometric signs. The image of Shah Ismail I was analysed comparatively with the
portraits of Yavuz Sultan Selim, their different peculiarities were revealed.
