THE FIRST ALL-UNION TURKOLOGICAL CONGRESS AND THE NOTES OF THEODOR MENZEL

Abstract

The notes of Theodor Menzel, dedicated to the activities and agenda of the First  All-Union Turkological Congress held in Baku in 1926, are of particular scholarly and historical significance. They document the major events, memories, and obser vations associated with the Congress, which took place nearly a century ago.
These notes constitute an important historical source for studying the socio
political and scholarly-cultural environment of the period in which the Congress  was held.
