FROM THE HISTORY OF THE RESEARCH OF SHEKI TOPONYMS

Abstract

Sheki is one of the most famous and outstanding regions of our republic. This territory has a rich toponymic wealth. In previous studies, Azerbaijani toponymy was studied comprehensively. That is, Azerbaijani paleotoponyms, modern territorial names, their origin, structural-semantic and even stylistic aspects infiction were studied. The structure and other features of toponymic units of
Azerbaijani-Turkic origin existing in different territories were also studied. The toponyms of the city of Sheki in the past attracted the attention of representatives of other nations, as well as Azerbaijani historians, geographers and linguists. The article examines major and minor works of these scientists and provides a brief analysis.
