Although they are languages with different systems, in modern English and Azerbaijani, verbs with derivational elements have certain similar but different features. Verb derivational elements are more common in English than in Azerbaijani.Unlike in English, derivational elements are not found in simple verbs in Azerbaijani. As in English, derivational elements have been formed from words that have entered our language from world languages through suffixes.
In the Azerbaijani language, the suffixes involved in the formation of derivational verbs are purely national suffixes. In English, such suffixes can be national and derivational suffixes. Both in modern English and Azerbaijani, complex verbs with derivational elements have rich semantic features. As in English, in Azerbaijani, verbs with derivational elements are less frequently used in oral speech than in written speech and journalism. All this shows that verbs with a derivational element in modern English and Azerbaijani languages have rich lexical-semantic features. It is possible to reveal the common and different aspects of these features based on the rich materials of both languages.
