The article examines the symbolic nature of words with numerical and quantitative meaning in paremiological and phraseological units. The symbolism of numbers occupies an important place in the ethnic consciousness of peoples, in various religions, and beliefs. And all this is not accidental. According to the ancient religious-mythological system, numbers are one of the main components in understanding the cosmic picture of the world. In primitive collective consciousness, numbers or words with numerical meaning served as a symbol of the World and Cosmos. The world was understood precisely in numbers. This
concept has preserved its semantic content in the proverbs that have come down to us, the in-depth analysis of the cognitive semantics of which will reveal the vestiges of ancient symbolism in numerical and quantitative content. For example, one can denote the sacred nature of the numbers "one," "two," "seven," "forty," which is associated with the mytho symbolic traces of these linguistic units.
