Abstract

In our onomology, we do not find special studies on the division of toponyms by the morphological method, that is, on the basis of roots and suffixes, as well as on the grammatical features of toponyms that are formed by adding suffixes to dialect words. In our opinion, a number of suffixes existing in the Azerbaijani language were added to syllabic words and historically took an active
part in the creation of toponyms. Turning a certain dialect word into a toponym is a very old sign. It is absolutely impossible to deny that dialect words are formed with the help of word-correcting suffixes when creating toponyms.
