    Abstract

The issue of correct rendering of language units with connotative semantics in translated texts is analyzed in the article. Since there are differences among the cultures of different nations, words that are appropriate in terms of denotation in different languages, meaning the same thing, may differ in terms of connotative semantics. In this regard, providing connotative semantics reflecting national characteristics during the translation of literary works is one of the main conditions of correct translation. This paper shows the problems that arise during the translation of evaluative lexicon – words with connotative meaning in literary texts. The fact that more difficulties arise while giving an accurate translation of national-cultural connotations, which differ in terms of associative evaluation, and the reasons for this are mentioned. The problems that arise in the issue of accurately giving the meanings of connotative words during the translation of literary works into unrelated languages are discussed, and it is concluded that in order to successfully reveal the cultural connotations of linguistic units in a translated work and to achieve connotative equivalence, the translator should not only consider the culture of the people to whom the source text belongs, but also he should also be familiar with his native culture and also understand the author's intention correctly. So, although common loanwords in different languages are easily translated, it is impossible to achieve the correct translation of words with national-cultural connotations without knowing the culture of the people.
