AZERBAIJAN ANTHROPONMY AND ETHNOTOPONYMS IN ANCIENT GREEK SOURCES

This article is about appeal onomastic units used in ancient Greek. Playing an important role in the cultural life of
the people each language unit including the study of onomastic lexicon is important for each period. This work tells
about investigation of toponyms, ethnotoponyms mentioned in ancient greek sources. The origin of ethnonym, its geographical
development, destruction, or transformation to other qualities, in other words, all history of ethnonym is related
to the history of ethnos in one way or another. The works of ancient Greek authors contain many ethnonym, toponym,
anthroponym, teonim. This also shows that archaic contents of the onomological lexicon of the Azerbaijani language
were used in the works of ancient Greek authors. Some of those are defined by the historical lexicon of Turkic
languages . Many of these names are found in Azerbaijan. The first information about Atropatena, Media is especially
ancient Greek and Roman authors in their works. The Strabon, Polybius, Xenophon, Herodotus provided information
about many provinces and tried to analyze them. Ancient Greek sources are very valuable in determining the majority
of Azerbaijan's ethnonyms, toponyms and other onomastical unit. Some of those ethnotoponyms are defined by the
histroical lexicon of Turkic languages.
