Abstract

A comparative analysis of the independent meaning of words in modern Azerbaijani language
with the facts of ancient Turkic, medieval monuments, as well as other active Turkic languages shows
that although some lexical units have not undergone fundamental changes, the phono-morphological
and lexical-semantic features of the main part have evolved, renewal, change has taken place. Contrary to the theoretical linguistics’s view about the presence of clearness at the border of the root and suffix in agglutinative languages, many words that have historically been divided into root and suffix
against the background of a number of phonetic and morphological events (sound loss, sound increase, sound substitutions, simplification) have become simple words in modern conditions.
Along with general, universal features in the development of Azerbaijani words with other Turkic languages, there are also individual tendencies specific only to the Azerbaijani language, which is
regulated by the region where the language is located, historical and social conditions and its relationship with other languages.
