Abstract

The term "discourse" is a related concept of different sciences. The definition of the term "discourse" varies depending on the approaches: structural-stylistic, communicative, structural-syntactic
and socio-pragmatic. Discourse has all the properties of a text: completeness, coherence, spontaneity
and situativeness. Although discourse always finds its expression in the text, not every text is a coherent speech, and, consequently, an expression of discourse. The article notes various groups of discourses, but analyzes the media discourse in more detail. Media discourse is thought of as any kind of
discourse implemented in the media. Media discourse is connected with institutional discourse. The
main characteristics of the media discourse are non-linearity, polycode, openness. Like any discourse,
media discourse is used to promote certain political, social, economic, religious and cultural goals.
Intertextuality and language play are also defining features of the media text. The subject of discourse,
and media discourse in particular, are ways of describing and transmitting knowledge about society,
for example, about political processes, about time.
Thus, media discourse is a conscious speech activity that has different thematic content and rules
for building communication, during this activity knowledge is created, transmitted and interpreted.
