CLASSIFICATION OF PERSONAL NAMES IN JAFAR JABBARLI’S PLAYS

Abstract

Anthroponyms are among the units that play an important role in creation of every literary work.
Personal names have been classified with variety of methods in onomastic researches. These classifications can be applied to the personal names in Jafar Jabbarli’s plays.
Anthroponyms are divided into to groups including active and passive anthroponyms according
to the direct participation of the person that they denote in the work. Classification of personal names
as main and auxiliary personal names is also applied to the language of plays. In this case, the categories of pseudonym, nickname, title and rank are included into auxiliary personal names. Two groups
of personal names are determined according to their origin, i.e. personal names of Turkic origin and
personal names borrowed from another language. For their structure, personal names as simple, derivative and compound words, and as phrases can be shown.
In the article, the personal names used in Jafar Jabbarli’s plays has been classified according to
the criteria given above. The classification shows that J. Jabbarli’s plays are rich in various kinds of
personal names.
