Abstract

Word combinations are a grammatical category. It has a nominative character and expresses objects and events.
However, it expresses things and events not in isolation, but in relation to each other. Word combinations are formed
from the semantic-syntactic unity of words. Terms formed in the form of word combinations are the main part of the
terminology. The parts of such combinations have changed as a result of comprehensive semantic development, and
some of them have expanded semantically and acquired new meanings.
In the syntactic formation of terms, more word combinations are used than compound words, which is not without
reason. The words used in the conjunction signify a new concept. However, each lexical unit within a compound may
retain its previous meaning. Often, in such expressions, the components are unable to retain their independent
meanings. Nuclear words, which play a leading role in the process of formation of term-word combinations have a
special significance in the syntactic formation and quantitative plurality of terms. Complex terms and phrases formed on
the basis of a nuclear word combine new concepts and terms around the same meaning, including the semantic load
expressed by that nuclear word, that most of the combination of culinary terms in English and Azerbaijani are language
units formed around this type of nuclear word.
