Abstract

This article deals with the onomastic units mentioned in ancient Greek sources. This topic is about the study of
ethnonyms, ethnotoponyms mentioned in ancient Greek sources. We come across many ethnonyms in the works of ancient Greek authors in the territory of Azerbaijan. Based on this, we can say that archaic examples of onomological lexicon of the Azerbaijani language were developed in the works of ancient Greek authors. Preliminary information about
the Mug tribe, Shirak, Gugar, Pecheneg and other tribes is especially noted in the works of ancient Greek authors. Strabo, Xenophon, Herodotus gave information about many provinces and tried to analyze them. Ancient Greek sources are
rich in valuable materials for the identification of most Azerbaijani ethnonyms, toponyms and other onomastic units.
