In recent years, a number of articles have been written about the scientific works of B. Chobanzade (T. Hajiyev, A.
Babaev, E. Azizov, M. Mammadli, S. Sadigov, etc.). However, these works do not specifically touch upon the author's
study “Ibn Muhanna and his dictionary”. Although the monograph of Professor J. Gasimov “Bakir Chobanzade” published in 2018 contains some of B. Chobanzade’s views on historical dictionaries, his work “Ibn Muhanna and his Dictionary” did not become a separate object of research.
The article is devoted to the lexicographic research of the outstanding Turkologist, founder of the academic linguistic school in Azerbaijan, Professor Bekir Chobanzade. Here, first of all, the researches of the scientist devoted to the
study of historical dictionaries are considered, in particular, his work "Ibn Muhanna and his dictionary".
For the first time in the article, the monograph of B. Chobanzadeh “Ibn Muhanna and his dictionary” was involved
in the research, and the scientist's views on the dictionary were compared with the views of modern Turkologists.
The article notes that although B. Chobanzade's scientific works contain information about many dictionaries devoted to the study of the Turkic languages, the linguist conducted a more detailed study of only two of these dictionaries
(and we would like to emphasize that for the first time in Turkic studies he comprehensively analyzed them) and
throughout his career, he referred to these works. This is, firstly, "Divan" by M. Kashgarli, to which he, although he
dedicated a special work, but throughout his career he referred to when explaining questions about the history of the
language; secondly, Ibn Muhanna's dictionary "Khulliyat ul-Insan va hulat ul-lisan" ("Mastery of language and its description"), which was first studied by a scientist, and undoubtedly in Azerbaijani linguistics, a comprehensive and deep
study of this dictionary belongs to B. Chobanzade.
The article provides links to the monograph by B. Chobanzade, as well as to the relevant scientific literature on this
topic.
