Abstract

The article deals with the relation of variant and invariant in the language. It is noted that an integral characteristic
of the language is its inherent variability, which is dialectically dependent on the concept of constancy. Their dialectical
interaction in the time continuum reflects, on the one hand, the changeable nature of language as a system; on the other,
the persistence and continuity of the language system for the implementation of its main function - the function of
communication. The contraposition of invariants and variants is often associated with the contraposition of language
and speech. It is assumed that language consists of invariants, and speech consists of variants.
