Abstract

To study ethnonyms, it is important to refer to historical sources, works of historians, geographers, toponymic lexicon. Without considering them, there can be no perfect study of ethnonyms. By researching tribal names, it is possible
to obtain materials for other areas of onomastics. The lexical units involved in the formation of some Azerbaijani ethnonyms are outdated in terms of the modern Azerbaijani language. The etymological analysis of tribal names based on
ancient Turkic words is important. Some ethnos names reflect ancient phonetic, grammatical, lexical and semantic features. The lexical units involved in the formation of some Azerbaijani ethnonyms are outdated in terms of the modern

formed from words denoting, ethnonyms formed from words of a religious nature, ethnonyms formed from the names
of clothes and other items belonging to the tribe, appearance, color, etc. can be grouped in the form of ethnonyms
formed from words denoting.
