Abstract

Written monuments of ancient Sumerians, refer to the IV-III millennium BC. (3100-2800 years BC). In the
Starovilavon period (2000-1800 BC) the writing of the Sumerians (cuneiform) was adapted to the Akkadian language,
and the dead Sumerian language was used for many centuries as a language of science and religion. In this connection,
the lexicography of the Sumerian language developed until the 1st century AD. The article analyzes the principles of
compiling monolingual Sumerian dictionaries (syllabaries, dictionaries of synonyms, loan dictionaries), SumerianEbayite dictionaries, encyclopedic dictionary "Urra-Khubullu", dictionaries from the library of Ashurbanipal,
Akkadian-Akkadian synonymic dictionary "Malku = šarru" ). Information is also provided on the study of the writing of
the Sumerian language, which refers to the agglutinative language group and the Akkadian and Eblaic script, whose
languages belong to the Semitic group.
