LINGUISTIC VIEWS OF ALISHER NAVOI

Abstract

The great Uzbek poet and thinker Alisher Navai was engaged in artistic activity, scientific activity and wrote a
number of treatises. The work "Muhakimatul-lugateyn" written by the poet at the end of his life contains a number of
interesting and valuable ideas on linguistics, especially Turkology. In this small work, the author compares Turkish with
Persian and notes that a hundred verbs in his native language have no equivalent in Persian. In addition, the treatise
emphasizes that a number of ethnographic words have no equivalent in Persian, and for this reason they are used as the
same in language. One of Navai's most interesting ideas as a linguist-turkologist in this work is to highlight some
morphological features and the power of word formation in Turkish. Noting all this, Navai turned his face to his Turkicspeaking compatriots and showed that Turkish is superior to Persian in a number of qualities and urges them to write in
their native language.
