Abstract

The presented article talks about the construction of situational meanings that
will occur in the future, linking artistic speech with reality, using the example of
lexical and grammatical means of expressing the future tense, modal verbs and
modal words in dialogical speech. Based on the multifaceted semantics of the future tense and analysis of factual material, the author identified various modal
meanings conveyed by the combination of modal verbs must, should, ought, can,
may with an infinitive, and came to the conclusion that the mentioned modal verbs
are more common than modal words (possibly, probably). As a result of the study,
it was determined that the actualization of the processing of modal verbs and modal
words is mainly due to the desire of the author of the work to convey to the reader
(listener) various shades of future events and to give an accurate description of the
characters.
