ABOUT HOMONYMS USED IN "DIVAN" OF AJIZ

Abstract

Homonyms are not one word, but different words that sound the same. They
differ from each other not only according to their lexical meaning, but also sociologically, areally, stylistically or chronologically. The number of homonymous
words in this and other languages is mainly related to the quantity of monosyllabic
words. Whichever language has many monosyllabic words, the quantity of homonymous words will be more in that language.
Although homonyms are a historical category, the current state of the language
should be defined from a synchronic perspective. Because they are mainly distinguished not only by the compatibility of the external forms of the words, the lack
of semantic connection, but also by the meaning of those words. If we look at them
from the historical point of view, words originating from the same root and expressing different concepts should not be considered homonyms. First, it is very
difficult to define homonyms etymologically: secondly, some of them are no longer
considered homonyms in our modern language.
During the study of Muhammad Khalifa Ajiz's "Divan", we approached homonyms as a lexical unit and tried to determine their position in the language and stylistic features as a historical category.
