WORD COMBINATIONS (IZAFAT) IN THE LANGUAGE OF MOHAMMED AMIN RASULZADE'S POEMS

Abstract

This article is devoted to the linguistic analysis of selected expressions from
M.A. Rasulzade's poems. Having a multifaceted creativity, M.A. Rasulzade tried
his pen in many genres of literary criticism and literary works, wrote many poems,
works and plays. Azerbaijani people recognised him not only as a political and
social figure, but also as a talented writer and poet. It is possible to find enough
adjective combinations in his poems. Adjectives were common in our literary
language, especially in our poetry before the 18th century. In the poet's language
the translation of adjectives, i.e. Persian and Arabic compound forms with their
Azerbaijani equivalents is clearly visible. It is possible to find enough
combinations of adjectives in his poems. Adjectives were widely used in our

"Izafat" as a linguistic term refers to Arabic and Persian languages. For a long time
in Turkology, word combinations were defined as Persian adjectives. Phrases
containing adjectives were able to preserve their deep traces in poetry for some
time. When we analyse M.A. Rasulzade's poems in terms of language, we see that
adjective combinations are used more often.
