Abstract

definiteness functional semantic field of the Tat language, one of the Iranian languages spread in the
territory of Azerbaijan. The definiteness/ indefiniteness category is a semantic category found in some
Iranian languages. Means of expression of definiteness/indefiniteness exist in all languages. However,
the article, which forms the core of the functional-semantic field of definiteness/indefiniteness, is not
used in most languages. Other means of expression of definiteness and indefiniteness are used in such
languages. The research shows that proper names, personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, the
numeral “one”, postpositions and other means are used in Tat language to express definiteness and
indefiniteness.
