The archaic culture of the Sicilian Island was formed by the ethnic groups migrated from Western
Asia to the Mediterranean Basin. One of these ethnic groups of Asian origin that had an agglutinative
language was Tendir.
The ethnonim Tendir was attested in the forms Tentir, Tendir, Dender in the Egyptian papyrus
texts, as well as in the works of Greek and Latin historians. And the cities that were built by the descendants of Tendir were called Tendera, Tindara, Dendera.
According to some researchers Tendir was an ethnic group of Aryan origin, while the others considered it to be of non-Aryan ethnic group. In the article, such an idea is presented to the scientific society that Tendir is one of the Proto-Turkic ethnic groups that created the ancient culture of the Nile Basin and the Mediterranean Basin.
One of the prominent poets of Sicily was a descendant of the Tendir ethnic group. The ethnonym
Tendir is connected with tendir ‘tandoor, oven’, with bread as related to tandoor, and with daily bread
that was given by God.
