PECULIARITIES OF THE NOMINATION OF HYDRONYMS OF KARABAKH (based on the hydronyms of Shusha)

Abstract

The article deals with the hydronyms of Karabakh. The main goal is to determine the principles
for nominating water bodies. The material of the research shows that the analysis of hydronyms makes
it possible to study natural geographical landscape and national-ethnographic features of the territory.
It turns out that lifestyle, worldview, activities, occupation of the population, features of the flora and
fauna of the territory are reflected in the hydronyms of Karabakh. It is emphasized that all physical
and geographical features of water bodies (velocity currents, color, taste, smell of water, nature of the
river source, vegetable coastal cover, birds, fish living in the river basin, etc.) are reflected in the
names. The conducted research represents a general panorama of the hydronymy of Karabakh, in
particular Shusha, and lexical-semantic analysis of hydronyms. The results obtained will help further
in-depth study of structural and word-formation characteristics of hydronyms of Karabakh.
