Terms of Music Found in Qatran Tabrizi’s Diwan

After becoming acquainted with creativity of Qatran Tabrizi, a conclusion can be drawn that like many other poets of his period, Qatran also knew the niceties of the art of music and therefore coulde use numerous musical terms in his works. In majority of Qatran Tabrizi’s eulogies, distiches devoted to description of nature are found. Such distiches cannot be emagined without music. Upon investigation of Qatran Tabrizi’s Diwan, usage of terminology of music in his works drew our attention. Such words can be grouped as follows:
1. Distiches bearing names of musical instruments; 2. Words related to music; 3. Artistic figures used in relation with musical terminology.
Our research revealed 20 different names of musical instruments, namely: 1. Chang, 2.Rubab, 3.Barbat, 3.Oud, 5.Chaghana, 6.Tar, 7.Roud, 8.Nay, 9.Kous, 10.Zir, 11.Argan, 12.Arghun, 13.Arghanun, 14. Tanbur, 15. Chalab, 16.Saz, 17. Musigar, 18.Parda, 19.Zakhma, 20 Mizrab.
