Abstract

The rapid and purposeful development of literature, especially publicism in this period, the emergence of new literary and artistic genres, changes in plot, language, and style in literature with new ideas and new forms, breadth of topics, diversity of ideas, content, and content innovation are precisely the multifaceted demands put forward by the time to respond and serve the realization of enlightenment ideas. On the whole, the main characteristics of the literature of the 19th century were innovation, search, and tendencies, modernizing national literature based on Western culture, but the leading idea was enlightenment. The Enlightenment intellectuals of Tanzimat viewed science, edu-cation, and art as the driving forces of history and noted the special importance of literature and the periodical press in this work. They suggested that literature enlightens the reader, which means it also improves society and helps to eliminate social problems. Turkish enlightenment is to see the nation as educated, the country as advanced and in its rightful place, to explain that the freedom of the motherland and the people is higher than all personal ideals, etc., which carries great universal qual-ities.
