NOVRUZ IN ZANGAZUR – UNFORGETTABLE TRADITIONS

Abstract

Since the early 20th century, the ancient Azerbaijani land of Zangazur was gradually hand-ed over to Armenia. The people of Zangazur have always been hardworking, engaged in animal husbandry, agriculture, and sericulture. By the decree of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, dated July 7, 2021, the Eastern Zangazur economic region was established. This decree restored the historical name of Zangazur to geographical and administrative maps once again. Like other regions of Azerbaijan, Zangazur is rich in folklore.
The folklore treasury of ancient Zangazur is also remarkable for the diversity of its ceremo-nies, customs, and traditions. As in other parts of the country, Novruz Bayram is celebrated in Zangazur with great enthusiasm and festivity. Ceremonies reflect the historical heritage and identi-ty of every nation. Therefore, preserving them is essential for strengthening national unity and safeguarding cultural heritage. It is the duty of every Azerbaijani citizen to keep these values alive.
