The literary environment of Shusha developed within the broader Azerbaijani and Karabakh cultural context, influenced by Turkic-Islamic, Alban-Christian, and various regional cultures. In ancient Karabakh cities such as Barda and Beylagan, literature in Arabic, Persian, and the native language flourished. The elegy composed by Davdağ for Javanshir is an early example of palace poetry and statehood traditions in Karabakh. This environment provides a rich source for studying the national and ethnic identity of Azerbaijani literature.
