    Abstract

Azerbaijani literature has a unique place in the world literature system in terms of reflecting life. However, the function of literature reflecting life varies depending on the periods. In the late 50s and early 60s, this position began to emerge and gradually progress in Azerbaijani literature. In the literary works created during this period, a humanistic approach to man and the strengthening of the personality factor were taken as the basis and accepted as the basis of a new stage. The emphasis on the fate of modern man, an objective attitude to life events conditioned the creation of human images that began to struggle for innovation. One of the main signs of national self-awareness was to continue the appeal to folklore, which is a mirror of national thought. When depicting events and people in a work of art, it was imperative to pay attention to the spirit of the time. Writers and poets active in the period of national self-reflection - the 60s-90s - also considered it more appropriate to turn to reality in terms of establishing a warm relationship with the reader. More innovative, flexible-thinking characters began to appear as the main characters in the works. At the same time, reflecting the oral culture of the people, which is one of the main signs of national self-awareness, into written literature, also expresses national unity and the integrity of character arising from this unity.
