FOLKLORE ISSUES IN THE ACTIVITY OF AZERBAIJAN RESEARCH AND STUDIES SOCIETY

Abstract

In the article it is said about the activities of the Azerbaijan Research and Studies Society, which was founded and created mainly to study the economic potential and development prospects of the Republic.
As a result of the dedication and serious efforts of prominent figures of art, culture and literature of Azerbaijan, commissions on various fields of science such as history, ethnography, linguistics and folklore were established within this society from the first days of its activity.
The Folklore Commission headed by the prominent folklorist H.Zeynalli paid special attention to the collection, printing and research of folklore examples of Azerbaijan and numerous peoples of Azerbaijan. For this purpose, systematic and planned folklore expeditions were organized to different regions of the Republic.
During the activity years of the society from 1923 to 1930 the result of these expeditions were published in several folklore books.
The activity of the society is an important stage in the history of Azerbaijani folklore, as well as its scientific and theoretical foundations.
