    Abstract

In the article, the author shows that the history of marriage and wedding customs in Azerbaijan played a big role in the relatively stable ritual form of the Turanian, Heavenly Turkic and Hun-Oguz eras. Over the centuries, it has been improved in various historical regions of our country and turned into a unified and rich ritual system. In ancient times, the easiest way to find a betrothed was to go to the nearest spring, climb trees or hide in the branches of rocks and bury teenage girls, find and arrest a lover. Young people sometimes watched girls with glasses for a long time. They also asked their sisters to spread the word among the village girls, find out their secrets, bring the most beautiful one and get their consent. Wedding ceremonies in Azerbaijan took place in several stages. 1. Preparation. 2. Looking for a groom 3. Dating. 4. Matchmaking. 5. Engagement. 6. Marriage. 7. Wedding.
Each stage had its own customs.
