Abstract

Beliefs about birth,are considered one of the archaic ideas found in the folklore of the peoples of the world, especially in fairy tales and epics, even during the performance of some ceremonies. The birth beliefs of Iraqi Turkmans, who have the same ancestry as ancient Azerbaijani Turks, speak the same language and dialect, and are known as the authors of similar
folklore texts, do not escape the attention of researchers and are involved in research.
After carefully examining the folklore of the Iraqi-Turkman, it is not difficult to group the sources where birth beliefs are described. In general, it is very necessary to conduct the existing rituals related to birth among the Turkmans, to study and study the traditions, beliefs, and rituals that arise from it. First of all, fairy tales can be mentioned as an object of research. In these tales,
along with different plots and motives, the birth episodes, childlessness that determines the birth motive, and the worldview and way of thinking of the people who came up with certain tricks to get rid of childlessness are noteworthy.
Wedding ceremonies, which are considered one of the important events in the daily life of the people, are also celebrated with special pomp among Iraqi Turkman. Specially at the weddings, the songs addressed to the newlyweds do not go unnoticed in the content of mobilizing the bride and groom, promoting parenthood, and preparing for the birth of a son or child. From this point of view, the wedding celebrations are the auspicious beginning of the road leading to the birth ceremony.
One of the activities performed by the Turkman of Kirkuk for the birth of a child is the practice of visiting cemeteries and tombs of people known as saints. It is known that birth beliefs also consist of ideas the future mother, specifically related to the period of pregnancy. The main purpose of our research was the birth beliefs with this content, which are still lived in the daily life of the Iraqi Turkman.
